To demonstrate a comprehensive shoulder
taping technique to support individuals with shoulder instability or recurrent
dislocations. Includes both a standard method and an extended approach for
enhanced durability, particularly in high-sweat or contact environments.
· GoLevita 38mm Rigid Strapping
Tape
· GoLevita 75mm Elastic Adhesive
Bandage (EAB)
· Hypoallergenic underlay (e.g. UnderFix)
· Scissors or tape cutter
Have the patient place their hand on the opposite hip to position the shoulder in internal rotation. Apply a strip of UnderFix from the lower chest, over the trapezius, and down the scapula for skin protection.
Apply two anchor strips:
- One over the upper shoulder and down the scapula (on top of the UnderFix).
- One around the upper bicep, just below the deltoid. Ask the patient to tense
their bicep while applying to avoid constriction.
Apply stirrups:
- First set: from the front of the shoulder to the back of the bicep anchor
(overlap by 50%).
- Second set: from the back of the shoulder to the front of the bicep anchor.
Repeat as needed to build the desired level of support.
Lock off stirrups with rigid tape overlapping the initial anchor on the upper chest.
Using GoLevita’s 75mm EAB:
- Start at the anterior shoulder, overlaying the rigid tape.
- Ask the patient to tense their bicep again while wrapping.
- Wrap around the shoulder and finish at the posterior anchor.
- Secure with a strip of rigid tape.
For footy players or those who sweat
heavily:
- Wrap the EAB fully around the chest and back.
- Have the patient lift their opposite arm to allow clearance.
- Circle the torso and return to the front, avoiding the nipple line.
- Finish at the back and secure with rigid tape.
This method improves hold during intense movement or perspiration.
• Ideal for athletes in high-contact sports
(e.g., AFL, rugby).
• Use Hyperfix for skin protection on sensitive areas.
• Layer stirrups and elastic tape as needed based on severity of instability
and athlete preference.
• Always check circulation and comfort post-application.
