To demonstrate a taping technique aimed at
correcting lateral deviation and rotational misalignment of the patella. This
method helps restore neutral patellar tracking and reduce anterior knee pain
caused by poor biomechanics or maltracking.
· GoLevita UnderFix
(hypoallergenic)
· GoLevita 38mm Rigid Strapping
Tape
· Compression bandage EAB (optional
for extended wear)
· Scissors or tape cutter
With the patient’s leg extended, apply GoLevita UnderFix directly over the anterior knee. Ensure there are no creases. This layer reduces skin irritation and enhances tape comfort and durability for long-term wear.
Using 38mm rigid tape:
- Begin on the lateral border of the patella.
- Apply strong medial pull across the kneecap.
- Fixate the strip medially to pull the patella into a more neutral position.
- Visible skin creases medially indicate effective redirection of patellar
force.
Apply a second strip slightly more
medially:
- Repeat the same medial pull technique.
- Reinforces the initial correction and sustains medial glide during movement.
Place a small strip over the medial edge of
the patella:
- Apply downward pressure to counteract lateral tilt (rotational shift).
- Helps stabilise vertical alignment of the patella.
Apply a strip at an upward angle under the
patella:
- Target the inferior pole to control anterior tilt.
- Forms a “U” shape configuration, stabilising the entire kneecap and
correcting lateral rotation.
If the tape is to be worn long-term, apply a compression bandage over the tape job. This enhances durability and secures correction during dynamic activity.
• Ideal for patellofemoral pain, lateral
tracking issues, and rotational misalignment.
• The underwrap ensures patient comfort and reduces skin reactions.
• This technique may assist both acute and chronic presentations.
• Always reassess patellar mobility and patient comfort after taping.
