To demonstrate the Moccasin or Low Dye
taping technique to reduce excessive pronation and support the medial
longitudinal arch. This technique is commonly used to mimic the supportive
tension of the plantar fascia and control rearfoot motion during stance and
gait.
· GoLevita 50mm Rigid Strapping Tape
· Scissors or tape cutter
With the patient weight-bearing or seated,
assess foot type.
Clean the foot, ensure dryness, and position it in a neutral to mildly supinated posture.
Ask the patient to roll slightly outward to support better arch alignment during tape application.
Apply three strips starting at the 1st, 3rd, and 5th metatarsal heads, angling them toward the heel.
These strips mimic the fascial lines of the plantar fascia and serve as the structural base of the tape job.
Wrap around the heel neatly to anchor.
Apply 3–4 strips from the lateral heel,
pulling medially and upward across the arch with moderate tension.
Avoid extending past the forefoot.
Each strip should overlap the previous by
approximately 50%.
Have the patient roll slightly inward or assist them into inversion while applying the arch-lifting strips to maximise midfoot elevation and enhance proprioceptive feedback.
Finish with two circumferential lock-off strips:
- First just below the forefoot from the 1st to 5th metatarsal,
- Second placed higher on the midfoot. These strips secure the structure and prevent peeling with motion.
• Reduces excessive rearfoot pronation and improves medial arch support.
• Suitable for plantar fasciitis, posterior tibial dysfunction, medial knee loading, and fatigue-prone feet.
• Tape tension can be modified based on the severity of pronation or cavus foot type.
• Consider using underwrap for sensitive skin or long-term use.
