To demonstrate a taping technique designed
to prevent elbow hyperextension and provide medial support following ligament
strain or acute overextension. This is especially useful in early
return-to-play scenarios for athletes recovering from valgus or hyperextension
injuries.
· GoLevita 38mm Rigid Strapping
Tape
· GoLevita 75mm Elastic Adhesive
Bandage (EAB)
· Scissors or tape cutter
Position the elbow in 20–30 degrees of flexion to prevent full extension. This positioning reduces stress on the cubital fossa and medial ligament complex.
Apply rigid tape directly across the front
(anterior) elbow:
- Begin laterally and pull medially with firm tension.
- Create crossover or 'X' patterns across the cubital fossa.
- Emphasise central fixation to provide the block to full extension.
This generates resistance and proprioception during elbow extension.
To prevent valgus strain:
- Apply tape from the medial elbow toward the lateral arm, reinforcing the
ulnar collateral ligament.
- Pull the elbow into a slight varus position.
- Focus the tension centrally to maintain structural support.
Additional strips can be used to support
the lateral ligament:
- Apply crossover strips on the lateral aspect.
- This further restricts lateral opening or instability.
Using GoLevita’s 75mm EAB:
- Apply a figure-8 wrap around the elbow, avoiding creases in the cubital
fossa.
- Maintain even tension to prevent rolling or folds.
- No rigid lock is required if finishing with elastic tape.
- Cut and secure the end on the inner arm.
• Ideal for early rehab phases of elbow
hyperextension or UCL strain.
• Enhances proprioception and prevents overextension under load.
• Always reassess range, comfort, and circulation post-application.
• Additional layers may be applied depending on the severity of instability or
activity intensity.
