To demonstrate an ankle taping technique
for injury prevention and support during rehabilitation following an inversion
sprain. This method uses GoLevita 50mm rigid sports tape to stabilise the ankle
joint, reduce excessive inversion/eversion, and promote safe return to sport.
· GoLevita 50mm Rigid Strapping
Tape
· Scissors or tape cutter
With the athlete in a seated or standing position and the ankle in neutral, apply an anchor strip around the lower third of the shin. This acts as the foundation for your stirrups and figure-8 straps.
Apply three stirrups around the ankle:
- First: From lateral to medial, just posterior to the lateral malleolus
- Second: From medial to lateral
- Third: From lateral to medial
Apply firm tension when bringing the tape back up to the anchor. These strips
provide the bulk of the inversion/eversion control.
Apply two figure-8 straps:
- One starting laterally, looping under the foot and back up to the anchor
- One starting medially, repeating the same loop
Ensure consistent tension to lock the midfoot and ankle into a stable position.
Apply one final strip around the top of the ankle to secure all tape layers in place. Avoid excessive tightness to prevent discomfort or circulation issues.
• Ideal for athletes returning from recent
inversion sprains
• Provides mechanical support and proprioceptive feedback
• Should be removed post-activity and reapplied as needed
• Always monitor for comfort, tightness, or skin irritation
